Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is an international airport under Class B airspace in Kenner, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is owned by the city of New Orleans and is 11 miles west of downtown New Orleans. A small portion of Runway 11/29 is in unincorporated St. Charles Parish. Armstrong International is the primary commercial airport for the New Orleans metropolitan area and southeast Louisiana.
MSY covers 1,500 acres of land. At an average of 4.5 feet above sea level, MSY is the 2nd lowest-lying international airport in the world, behind only Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands, which is 11 feet (3.4 m) below sea level.
The MSY Project involved providing Fire Sprinklers throughout the 1,975,000 GSF facility. The area protected include, the North Terminal, Concourse A, B, & C as well as the Parking Garage and CUP Buildings. Two new Fire Pumps (elec. & diesel) installed in the CUP buildings both rated at 145 psi @ 1500 gpm. Both pumps are supplied by an onsite 282,000 Gallon water tank, which was also supplied by NFP. The Project consist of (40) Wet Systems, (6) Dry Pipe Systems, & (3) Pre-action Systems all supplying a total of 9,234 Sprinklers. The Parking Garage consists of a Dry automatic standpipe system.
